As soon as they were done licking their lips, contestants that took part in the Labor Day Weekend Chocolate Pie eating contest signed onto Sun-N-Fun’s Facebook page to catch the video clips and Smile Box slide show of the event.
Gordon Walker signed onto the Tropical Palms’ Facebook page to see if we would give him a free week’s pass when he visited the U.S.. We told him we were sorry, but we did have some great deals for friends coming all the way from Scotland.
Lori Wilson signed onto Sherkston’s Facebook page because she wanted friends to tell her all about the Las Vegas Weekend there on October 2nd thru 5th. She’s planning to attend but has never been to one before. And just when is it smart to double down?
They’re all having fun on our Facebook pages and you can too. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends when you’re away, find out what’s been happening at the resorts and make plans to attend some of great events that are coming up.
After all, unless you sign up for your favorite resort’s Facebook page, how will you ever find out about the “Great Weekend Getaway” game happening at Sun-N-Fun, discover the recipes our staff at Tropical Palms has been collecting, or watch video of the Horns from Hell when the band played at Sherkston.
So join today and get in on the good times. Start posting and sharing your stories, pictures and videos. Tell us all about the special stuff you did during your stay, local places you visited and want to turn others onto, places you stop along the road while you travel to and from your favorite resort that you think everybody ought to know about, friendships you formed and activities you took part in. Facebook is all about endless possibilities to connect and network.
Being part of the fun is as easy as clicking on the link to your favorite resort and then clicking on the box that says Become A Friend.
So sign on and sign up. Your friends are waiting for you.

On The Road Again

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Clarissa and Floyd Linendoll travel from Salem, in upstate New York to spend the winter t Tropical Palms in their Fleetwood Flair Special Class A motor home. They like to take their time, avoid city traffic and enjoy the fall scenery. Among the stops they’ve made and enjoyed during their years coming to Tropical Palms are Dolly Parton’s Dollywood in the Great Smoky Mountains and the chocolate factory at the sweetest town in America, Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Linendoll’s also “take a tip from Pedro” and stop at South of the Border in North Carolina, “a terrific place to take a break,” according to Floyd. “Clarissa and I enjoy the amusement park and all the restaurants and shops they’ve got there,” he says. Another favorite of theirs is Winchester, West Virginia, a beautiful town filled with history dating back to the Revolutionary War. And the Linendolls always make a stop in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to see their grandson, who’s in Golf College there before completing their journey.

Taking a completely different approach to their trip here, Patti and John Apgar, who have been coming to Tropical for 20 years, drive, by car, straight through from their home in New Haven, Vermont. In 22 hours.

“We got to get down there and see everyone,” John explains. “Get to the warm weather, hang out with the old friends we see every year.”

The only stops the Apgars make along the way during their 22 hour drive are at Cracker barrel restaurants. “We know the menu and like the food, the faces are familiar and if we need to sleep for a hour or two, the parking lot is well lit and we feel safe.”

So the Apgars pack up their Chevy Tahoe and a little 5 x 8 trailer they got this year with tee shirts, shorts, bikes and their grill. According to John, that’s all they need to have a great time for the three months they spend at Tropical every winter.

Got any travel tips, ideas, or suggestions? Join us on Facebook today and let everyone know about your favorite stops along the way. It’s always good to meet up friends when on the road, whether you’re taking your time exploring or making a 22-hour dash.
